Typically, the substation is divided into three specialized compartments: the High Voltage Compartment, equipped with high/medium voltage switchgear (such as a ring main unit or advanced gas-insulated switchgear) that can handle a maximum rated voltage of up to 40.5kV; the Low Voltage Compartment; and the Transformer Compartment, which houses either a three-phase oil-immersed transformer or a cast resin dry-type transformer.
